Our Categories


Arrangements: Vase will be provided (for a jump start pre-register at the Plympton Public Library) : Height: 6.5 inches  Diameter: 4.5 inches


Subcategories include: 

  • Single variety (example: An all sunflower arrangement)

  • 360° (example: An arrangement that will be turned and judged from all angles)

  • One Sided: (example: An arrangement that will only be judged from a front facing angle)

  • Herbs Arrangement

  • Natives


Specimen: Please Keep all specimen stem lengths under 12”


Dahlia: 

Subcategories include:

  • Decorative (Historically our largest category) will include Stellar  Dahlia

  • Water Lily

  • Cactus/Semi Catus 

  • Anemone

  • Collerette


*We will not judging Single-Flowered, Fimbriated, and Star Dahlia



  Hydrangea:   Will not have subcategories, they will all be judged as a group, Please keep stem length 


Zinnia: 

Will not have subcategories, they will all be judged as a group.


Sunflowers:

Subcategories include:

  • Large: 8” or larger

  • Petite 


Natives: Will not have subcategories, they will all be judged as a group.




Miscellaneous:  As we set the tables for our judges, if we see multiples of a category we did not anticipate for example, we have 5 lisianthus, they will be judged in their own group and taken out of the miscellaneous category. 


Produce: Vegetables or fruits:   No waxes may be used, please list variety type if known

Garlic: We ask for some stem. Do not refrigerated


 Pepper: We ask for some stem. Do not refrigerated


pumpkin:  Do not refrigerated


Miscellaneous: As we set the tables for our judges, if we see multiples of a category we did not anticipate for example, we have 5 garlic bulbs  they will be judged in their own group and taken out of the miscellaneous category. 


Squash:

Subcategories include:

  • Winter squash: We ask for no wax, and to not be refrigerated

  • Summer squash:  We ask for no wax, and to not be refrigerated

Herbs: 

We are asking for sprigs of thyme, oregano, basil or sage. We ask that the portion of the stem that is in water be stripped. 


Will not have subcategories, they will all be judged as a group.

Future Gardeners: 

(14 years and under)


Floral Arrangement: Will not have subcategories, they will all be judged as a group.


Terrarium: Will not have subcategories, they will all be judged as a group.


Produce: Will not have subcategories, they will all be judged as a group.




Best in Show:

  • Best in Show: There will be three winners of best in show, we have all three judges pick their favorites. 


  • People's Choice: We ask that all who come and see the event cast a vote for their favorite entry. We will tally them and announce the winner. Voting for this will end at 12:30pm.











General Rules:


  1. All entries can be dropped off at the town gazebo Sunday morning from 8am-9am. If you cannot make the time please reachout to Gabby Falconieri (gabby918@msn.com) to coordinate a different drop off time. Upon arrival you will be directed to the blue registration table. You will be instructed to fill out a tag for each of your entries. If you wish to pre register online or at the library you will be able to just hand you tags over at the table. 


  1. We are looking for creativity. We ask that you refrain from dried, invasive plants (please see our handout for more information,) artificial flowers or chemically treated plants, including plant polish or wax.


  1. Judging will begin promptly at 10am. 


  1. If you wish to take your entries home you must do so promptly at (but not before) 1pm. 


  1. Everyone is urged to enter as many classes as possible, but only one entry per subcategory ( you can enter the category of arrangements with a one sided arrangement and also a single variety. You may also enter multiple dahlias in the small medium and large dinner plate categories. 


  1. As we set the tables for our judges, if we see multiples of a category we did not anticipate for example, we have 5 garlic bulb entries, they will be judged in their own group and taken out of the miscellaneous category.
